Al Thuraya Planetarium is now open to the public!
Amid great fanfare, the 2,240SqM Al Thuraya Planetarium at the Katara Cultural Village was opened to the public.
The planetarium located in Building 45, which also has Qatar’s first astronomical dome.
The facility is named after Thuraya (Seven Sisters), a cluster of seven bright stars (the Pleiades M45), which was known since prehistoric times when ancient astronomers used to observe it frequently.
The Al Thuraya planetarium features a planetarium hall with a seating capacity of 200 people. Four seats have been reserved for people with disabilities and another four for the elderly.
It is highlighted by a huge 22M screen, equipped with state-of-the-art digital projectors featuring 2D and 3D tutorial shows.
A vast terrace overlooking the sea will serve as a platform for events and activities.
