Good news! The Fuwairat Beach is opened again for people after it was closed for 4 months in aim protecting the turtle nesting grounds that are found on the coastline.
As known, this beach is located in northern Qatar near Ras Laffan and it was completely fenced off since April.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, mentioned that this season has been a great success, it also said that there were larger number of nests that had been f found at any time before in any of the Qatari shores.
Hawks-bill turtles are very particular about where they lay their eggs, often heading to the exact same spot that they were born, or have previously nested. The fact that made several environmentalists in the state to ask for closing the beach have all the year to protect the nesting turtles and their environment. Knowing that many activities done on shores and in sea such as driving and campfires can leave debris that scare the turtles away and not come back again to the shores.
In order to help with litter on the beach, the ministry said this week that it has conducted a big beach cleanup and added 29 new waste containers along the beach.
You are all welcomed!
