Important things to know before getting your pet to Qatar!

If you love pets and planning to move to Doha, that you should know several things before you decide to get your pet with you or not.

 

 

As all know, Qatar is a hot country which could be unsuitable to your pet, especially if it likes the cold weather.

 

 

Also you should consider the idea of space and how to care for your pet and its needs; because such things may cost you, and then it would be a big problem if you don’t have a huge budget.

 

 

You should also know that dogs are prohibited in public place such as Corniches and others.  Some beaches could accept dogs, but you should hold them and not let them go.

 

 

Cats are not forbidden in the country. But some airlines will not accept the snub-nosed animals to be air-freighted on its planes. Therefore it better to know the type of your cat before you get it to the airport.

 

 

You can get your pets through in the cabin for international flights and so they must be transported as cargo or excess baggage instead. This may not cost you a lot of money, but also you should call the airline company to know more about the weight limitations. Also you should ask about all the details concerning such step before doing it.

 

 

You should know that if you want to come to Qatar, are obliged to get two dogs only per passenger, while there is no certain number for cats.

 

 

All animals must be vaccinated and all vaccinations should be done at least 30 days prior to their arrival in Qatar.

 

 

You should obtain a license for your pet before getting it into the country.

 

 

To do that, you should submit a copy of following documents to one of the Department of Animal Resources’ veterinary clinics in Al Matar, Al Rayyan and Al Shamal:

  • Copy of the owner’s ID/passport
  • An up-to-date vaccination record
  • A health certificate issued no more than 14 days prior to the animal’s arrival in Qatar

 

 

Once the import license is obtained, you should do all the calls with airline at least three day before your travel to Qatar to inform them that your animal will be ready to be shipped on that day.

 

 

Once you reach the airport in Qatar, your pet ill undergo several tests. To see if its free from all diseases, if it’s not prohibited in the country. In addition to paying the customs, you may pay additional fees for a veterinary inspection.

 

 

If your pet fails a serious test, probably it will not get the permission to enter Qatar and will be sent back to the country of origin at your own cost.

 

 

You must also know that the license is valid for 30 days, and that the pet which could enter Qatar must be a least for months in age.

 

 

The dogs that are prohibited in Qatar are: American Staffordshire Terrier, Boerboel, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Bull Terrier, Bulldog, Chinese Shar-Pei, Doberman, Great Dane, Japanese Akita, Neapolitan Mastiff, Afghan Hound, Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
