The UAE authorities a British football fan for wearing a Qatar national team shirt during the Asian Cup.
The young man did not know that doing so was a punishable offence in the UAE with a fine and a prison sentence.
He was given a chance to make one phone call on 31 January and was able to contact one of his friends.
He appeared to have been released after what happened.
Later, UAE officials said that he was arrested because of speaking in Arabic.
