Qatar: more than 60 activities to enjoy during the coming days
The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara will kick off today its eight-day National Day celebrations featuring 60 events and activities for the public, it was announced during a press conference yesterday.
With an overarching theme ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory,’ the festivities will witness a stunning innovation, aimed at embracing national identity and bringing the community together. A highlight of the festivities will be a stunning water fountain which has been designed to be a multi-sensory experience in itself.
Catered to various sections of the community, the programme includes military and student parades, performances of Al Ardah National Qatari performance, workshops and fine art exhibitions, and other cultural and recreational shows will feature residents and citizens from all walks of life.
Speaking at the press briefing, Katara General Manager, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, said: “The celebrations serve to renew a beautiful and precious memory embedded in the hearts and minds of those who live on the land of Qatar. At the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, we are thrilled to offer an exciting array of cultural activities and artistic performances that will last for eight consecutive days.”
Visitors to Katara will see some first-of-their-kind events that include performances by paratroopers, staged by Joint Special Forces.
A theatrical play by Qatari youth will attract those interested in drama and theatre. The venue will feature a mosaic painting of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
On National Day, maritime and sailing enthusiasts can gather on the Katara waterfront to welcome Fath Al-Kheir as it returns from a month-long voyage to Oman and Kuwait.
An ‘entertainment’ train, which can carry up to 18 children and parents, will be winding its way through Katara’s Esplanade.
The festivities will culminate in a thrilling fireworks display on December 19.
The Chairman of Katara’s National Day Celebrations, Abdul Rahman Jassim Al Tamimi, said that visitors can enjoy all the activities and events from 3pm to 11pm on during the eight-day celebrations. He added that guests will be treated to many surprises and gifts provided by generous institutes and restaurants.
Al Tamimi pointed out that the ‘dancing’ fountain show will be accompanied by national songs, which will take place every 20 minutes starting from 3pm each day.
Katara’s façade, specifically its arches and hills have already been decked up with stunning decorations, including flowers, for Qatar National Day festivities.
Katara kicked off the celebrations by unveiling a distinctive design to mark the occasion which embodies Qatar’s cultural renaissance, proud heritage and noble values, as it marches forward under the vision of a wise leadership.
