It seems that Hamad International Airport (HIA) is taking many steps to be a hub for public art worldwide especially after adding two new sculptures made by the Iraqi artist Dia Al Azzawi.
The two sculptures are titled by <<Flying Man>>, and are modeled after Abbas ibn Firnas, a Muslim historical figure who first experimented the idea of flying.
These pieces of art aim to create a monument to celebrate travelling in the modern age.
The pillars that appeared in Mesopotamia inspired the two tall cylinder structures, atop which the sculptures stand.
Flying Man joins the several sculptures and paintings, done by local and international artist.
This work is part of a six years plan to add several artworks around the HIA.
It’s noteworthy to mention that these pieces have been carefully selected for the airport.
