Review of Café DeLord

Review of Café DeLord

It is part of my job to visit many restaurants every month and try different cuisines. I have been lucky that most of my experiences have been very fulfilling. I believe mainly because the restaurants I usually visit are located inside the most luxurious hotels in Qatar. When I visit restaurants outside the hotels, I am not often amazed. However, when I had lunch at Café DeLord I was stunned by how good the food is.

Café DeLord is located at Al Ghanem Business Center (Burger Tower), next to Westin Hotel at Ramada signal.

The décor is simple, but cozy, accentuated by pastel colours and tree like structures. To me it looked like the kind of place you can only have a nice coffee and a croissant. I had no idea how wrong I was. I haven’t been as surprised by the food in a restaurant—in a long time—as I was when I had lunch at Café DeLord.

Chef Govinda is the man in charge of the kitchen and he is very thrilled to be the mastermind behind the wide variety of delicious dishes on offer. Guests will be surprised by the restaurant’s contemporary menu and by the wide variety of appetizer selections, soups, salads, beef, seafood, chicken, and tantalising desserts.

I took with me two of my colleagues to check out some of the dishes in the menu. We asked the chef to serve us his signature dishes to share.

The first dish that came to our table was the DeLord burrata. The cheese is served with mixed rocket leaves, fresh cherry tomatoes and toasted bread. The combination of ingredients make this appetiser stand out. For our second appetiser, we ordered the Quinoa Chicken Salad. A splendid mix of salad leaves with steamed quinoa and strips of grilled chicken, topped with dates and apples.

Our first main course dazzled me and my companions. I never expected to have such a delicious dish in a ‘café’.  The name is Shrimp Pilaf in a Lava. It’s a marinated shrimp sautéed with onion, garlic, chili and dill leaves stuffed into lava crust. The combination of flavors is extraordinary. The only word to describe this dish is spectacular. I will visit this restaurant over and over again just to have this dish. We also had a Lobster thermidor consisting of a creamy mixture of cooked lobster meat, egg yolks, and saffron stuffed into a lobster shell. It can also be served with an oven-browned cheese crust, typically Gruyère with risotto rice. The lobster was another sensational dish.

We thought nothing could be compared to our previous dishes until we tried the De lord manso, a creamy mushroom risotto served with Grilled Black Angus beef with pink peppercorn sauce. I don’t remember trying a better beef cut in a very long time. The meat was perfectly cooked and full in flavour.

The Pollo Brasa in yoghurt, marinated pan-fried chicken breasts & chicken legs served with mashed sweet potatoes, broccoli and gravy sauce is luscious. I also recommend the Grilled Salmon and Quinoa Fillet of grilled salmon, served with quinoa salad of tomatoes, spring onion, feta cheese and fresh coriander.

For dessert, we had a crème brûlée. My companion told me it was the best crème brûlée he has ever had and I couldn’t agree more.

The quality of food at Café DeLord can easily compete with any restaurant in any of the five-star hotels in the country. If you are into experiencing a new culinary journey, this restaurant is a must.
